Background

Founded in 1996, Big Chill Distribution operates a fleet of 130 (line haul and metro) refrigerated trucks throughout New Zealand. They specialise in express delivery of both chilled and frozen products. They operate eight depots around New Zealand and employ 160 staff. The competitive nature of the freight industry means that it is constantly changing, as market players look to innovate. Big Chill identified a need to focus on change management to aid them in maintaining a competitive advantage.

More than just financing

he Access GE team conducted a change management workshop with Big Chill’s leadership group to share the tools, techniques and best practices used by GE businesses globally to manage and accelerate change. During the workshop, Big Chill participants identified effective ways to initiate, lead, and manage significant organisational and personal change. Big Chill Director, Mark Shapland, found the workshop hugely valuable as the tools demonstrated could be introduced immediately into the business

We’ve already utilised the skills and the techniques that we learnt in the change management workshop and we have applied them within the business and in our internal workshops. If our CEO doesn’t believe in something, he won’t implement it, and he’s the one who’s been driving the use of what we learnt. I was impressed with the resource commitment from GE Capital.
